Commander 2017 Set Review and Top Picks.

Commander 2017 has been revealed and will hit stores soon. Here is my review of the product and my favorite new cards in the set.

Emperor Commander

Alternative formats for Magic: the Gathering are a blast. Team formats especially can allow you to play with friends in ways that you otherwise just couldn't.

For those unfamiliar with Emperor, here is the gist. You play on a 3 player team. Each team has an Emperor and 2 Lieutenants. Lieutenants face of against a specific Lieutenant on the opposing team(s). Emperors can not attack or be attacked until one of their lieutenants has been defeated. The goal of the game is to take out the opposing Emperor.

Now let's add commander to the mix: Everything is better with commander!!!

It's been a while since my last post, which seems the norm anymore. I think that may be alright. There are a few things I'd like to talk about today. All my attention (well 99%) in Magic: the Gathering has been allocated towards casual magic. I have been collecting and playing the planeswalker precon decks, am looking forward to the next archenemy set, and have some thoughts about where I'd go if I were doing the next commander set.

Breya's Modular Army

Since I first heard that the commander 2016 product was going to have a 4 color commander deck centered around artifacts I've wanted to change my Marchesa, The Black Rose modular army deck to a 4 color deck. I hoped and cried out for a valid on theme commander (or 2) to come lead my robots to victory, I must say, I'm not disappointed.

Commander Smash up

For those who have never heard of smash up, it is a living card game where players take 2 factions (say wizards and giant ants) and "smash" their decks together to battle each other for control of different bases. It's a really fun, fast paced game. Check it out. Smash up

Using this as inspiration and utilizing the new "Partner" mechanic in Commander 2016, I've decided to try and brew some 50 card decks that we can mash together to play some commander. (sure we could have done this before, but now  it's completely legal)

Commander Review: Adriana, Captain of the Guard

OK, OK, I'll admit it: I'm a fool for Boros. Conspiracy has brought us another new commander to play with. Let's see how she stacks up against another Red/White commander and see if we can't find some strategies that play well with her at the helm.
